The Improvement of Ecology
The ecologic situation in the area of the village Lakhta where the business complex is planned to be built, is one of the most favorable in the city. The application of environment-friendly technologies both at the stage of the construction and in the course of the operation of the complex will allow achieving harmony with the environment, creating maximum favorable conditions for the life and work of the citizens.
Primarily the ecology of the complex will be achieved by reducing power consumption in the district. Owning to the double façade skin of Lakhta Center Tower the heating and air conditioning consumption will be reduced at 50%. Owning to unique power saving solutions, Okhta Center is included in the list of top 10 most ecologically-friendly skyscrapers in the world”, made by Consumer Energy Report, among the projects such as a new building of the Bank of America in New York (the US), CIS Tower in Manchester (England) and Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou (China). Furthermore the concept of the future business complex implies the development of the most “green” transport, an express light rail system in the district, which along with the launching of the water transport system on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and discharging the main transport waterways will lead to a significant reduction of the emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The solutions aimed at reducing the quantity of trash and waste water are being worked out. “In parallel to the construction of a business center in Lakhta a lot of tasks can be resolved, for example, to improve an ecologic situation around the location”, says Leading Researcher of the Biologic and Soil Faculty of Saint Petersburg State University Dmitriy Kovalev. According to the scientist, at the same time with the implementation of the project the problem of the preservation of migrating stops of migrating birds in Nevskaya guba. “Such a large city as Petersburg may include and already includes nature protection areas. In Berlin there are areas and Helsinki is a good example where there is an ecologic and educational center Vikki where a large amount of birds inhabiting the city can be watched, says the scientist. In Europe our northern birds in offshore water basins, lakes and rivers tend to swim among all these skyscrapers and feel well”.
