Creating the expected
Lakhta Center Public Areas, the Ideas of Residents
The main principles which the initiators of Lakhta Center Project were governed during the design of the public areas of the complex are openness, accessibility, uniqueness, high quality of the new urban environment. According to the international practice, the best examples of such areas can be created in an active dialogue and collaboration with the future residents of these areas.
This is the way which Lakhta Center designers decided to take by employing active gifted youngsters and all not indifferent residents to develop the concepts and ideas. For example, during a youngsters’ architectural contest for the concept of the areas adjoining Lakhta Center an idea was born to create a covered pedestrian bridge connecting Lakhta with the Park of the Tercentenary of Saint Petersburg. The students of Petersburg-based universities having won in design contests assist well-known foreign architects in developing the concepts of the interiors of the Children’s Center for Amusing Science and conference halls.
It is obvious as early as now that this cooperation is useful not only for Lakhta Center. For young gifted authors it is a real opportunity to show their work not always in demand in typical projects. It is a real chance for the start of professional career, it is a priceless experience of cooperation with architects and designers known worldwide.
