Lakhta Center is a multifunctional complex in St. Petersburg with the Gazprom headquarter and public spaces occupying a third of the area. Construction was completed in October 2018, now start work on the arrangement of business and public areas. Pouring of the Upper Slab of the Lakhta Center Tower Foundation

Another large scale stage in the construction of Lakhta Center tower, pouring of the upper box foundation slab has been completed.

The Tower 462m tall and weighing 670t required a unique structure to be designed which would ensure reliability and stability of the building. The foundation mounted on 264 piles 2m in diameter and up to 82m deep is an enormous reinforced concrete pentagon box which height is similar to that of a six-storey building (17m) and which area is similar to a football playground (5,700m2).

The massive lower foundation slab 3,6m thick is the biggest bearing concrete structure in the world poured at a time, which is confirmed by the relevant Guinness World Records Certificate.

In the center of the foundation structure there is a core 24,5m in inner diameter, its construction has been started in the foundation and will proceed continuously up to the uppermost floors of the skyscraper. Additional stiffness of the foundation is provided by radial walls 11m tall and 2,5m thick.

The upper foundation slab completes the construction. It is lighter than the lower one and is 2m thick. 11m split the lower and the upper slabs of the tower box foundation. In future auxiliary areas for MEP systems and server rooms will be located at these two underground floors in the foundation split with a floor slab.

In total 48,000 cu.m. of concrete mix was required to build a box foundation. It is more than is required for the entire superstructure part of the skyscraper (47,000 cu.m.).

With the upper slab pouring all the works related to Lakhta Center construction below zero elevation are completed. At present the construction of the first floors of the Lakhta Center tower core is underway.
